Lake Norman Junior League

Etiquette Guidelines

Lake Norman Junior League

All players will be expected to play S.M.A.R.T. Golf.  The meaning of each letter is listed below.

S – Swing Safely

Players should not walk out in front of other players.  However, the person hitting is responsible for looking before he swings to make sure other players are out of range of the shot and his swing.  If players are out ahead of him, he should have them move.  Players should never play until the group ahead is completely out of range.

M – Move your clubs with you

Players should keep their clubs with them or ahead of them on the golf course.  They should never have to walk back to get their clubs.  The player should walk all the way to his ball and place his bag to the right of his ball (or left for a left hander).  When the player hits his shot onto the green, he should look for the next hole and leave his bag on that side of the green.

A – Always play ready golf

On the tee, every player should have his club, ball, and tee in hand and standing beside the tee marker ready to play.  He should not be sitting on the bench.  Practice swings should be limited to one or NONE.  Players should NOT take a divot with a practice swing.  In the fairway, if a player is at his ball ready to play and it is safe to hit, he should go ahead and hit if the other players aren’t ready.  On the green, the players should finish out whenever possible.  When the players complete the hole, they should leave the green as quickly as possible.  The score should be recorded at the next tee.

R – Remove and Replace the Flagstick

Once the players are on the green, the player whose ball is closest to the hole removes the flagstick.  The first person to hole out picks up the flagstick and replaces it when everyone is finished.

T – Take Care of the Golf Course

This includes replacing divots, raking bunkers, and properly disposing of trash.

When a player is playing a shot, all other players in the group should stand still and be quiet.

Players should get into the habit of marking the position of their ball on the green.

At the end of the round, players should remove their caps, shake hands with the other players, and thank them for the game.
